Clipboard history

Last reviewed 17 October 2026

SuperCmd keeps an unlimited clipboard history on your Mac. Every copied text, link, colour, file reference and image is stored locally in an on-device database, searchable from the launcher, and never uploaded. You can pin items you reuse, copy text out of a screenshot with built-in OCR, and paste any entry back into the frontmost app. Raycast caps free history at 3 months and Spotlight in macOS 26 expires items after 8 hours by default; SuperCmd keeps entries until you delete them.

What it stores

  • Plain and rich text, with the source app recorded for each entry.
  • Links, with a preview of the destination.
  • Colours, shown as swatches and copied in the format you need.
  • Files copied in Finder, stored as references.
  • Images and screenshots, with OCR so you can copy the text they contain.

How it works

  1. 01Open SuperCmd and type "clipboard", or bind the Clipboard History command to its own hotkey.
  2. 02Type to filter by content or source app. Pinned items stay at the top.
  3. 03Press Return to paste the selected item into the app you came from, or use the actions menu (⌘K) to copy, pin, open the OCR text or delete it.

Limits and privacy

Clipboard history is stored in a local SwiftData database and is never sent to SuperCmd's servers. Image data is loaded on demand so the history stays fast and the app stays small in memory.

Frequently asked questions

Is SuperCmd's clipboard history really unlimited?

Yes. There is no time or item cap. Entries stay until you delete them or clear the history, and they live only on your Mac.

Can SuperCmd copy text from an image on the clipboard?

Yes. Images and screenshots in the clipboard history are run through on-device OCR so you can copy the recognised text.

Does clipboard history sync between Macs?

Clipboard history stays local by design. Settings, snippets and notes can sync through your own cloud folder; clipboard contents do not leave the Mac.
